Teeth Whitening

dis-beyazlatma

Tooth whitening is a widely preferred aesthetic application today. Teeth whitening can be done by dentists in a clinical setting or at home with the advice of a physician. Tooth whitening (bleaching) application is an easier and faster method than many dental treatments.

How effective is teeth whitening?

After tooth whitening application, the colors of the teeth can be lightened up to 2-6 tones. This varies from person to person. The effect of this bleaching process can last between 6 months and 3 years, depending on how much the patient pays attention to oral and dental health and does not disrupt oral care. In order to maintain the effect of teeth whitening for a long time, you should follow the recommendations of your dentist and not disrupt your dental care.

Procedures Before Teeth Whitening

Before the tooth whitening procedure, x-rays are taken by the physician and it is evaluated whether there is a problematic tooth or gum problem in terms of oral and dental health. At this stage, if you have problems such as root canal treatment, filling or gum sensitivity, these problems are first eliminated. Then, in order to remove tartar and plaque from your tooth surfaces, tartar cleaning is done and pre-bleaching procedures are completed.

How is Laser Teeth Whitening Done?

  • The person to whom tooth whitening will be performed is first examined and if there are conditions such as caries, fillings, coatings, implants in the teeth, these are treated. After tartar cleaning, the whitening process is started.
  • During tooth whitening application, a special substance is applied to the junction points of the teeth and gums to act as a protective barrier in order to prevent the gums from being affected by the procedures. Then this substance is hardened with the help of a laser.
  • The whitening gel is applied to the surface of the teeth.
  • The laser is held to the whitening agent applied to the tooth surface and the color tone of the teeth is opened.
  • This process, also called office-type bleaching, usually takes 1-2 hours and is completed in a single session.

How is Home Bleaching Done?

Although home bleaching is not as effective as laser, it can be preferred by individuals for different reasons. In this method, the dentist takes the patient’s mouth measurement, prepares a special transparent plaque for him and tells the patient how to use it with the whitening gel. The patient applies the gel to his teeth by putting the gel in the plaque for at least 5 hours a day for 2 weeks. This process takes longer than laser and provides less bleaching.

Who is Not Suitable for Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening may not be suitable for everyone. These people are usually not suitable for bleaching.

  • Pregnant or lactating women
  • Children or adolescents
  • People who have allergic reactions
  • People with abrasion, cracks or fractures in tooth enamel
  • People who contain artificial materials such as fillings, veneers, implants or prostheses
